Resource Assistance for Youth offers recreational and art programming to youth looking for something more.
Currently, RaY partners with MOMENTA experience discover grow to offer the Urban Adventures program. This unique program engages youth in a healthy and exciting way. RaY offers the chance for youth to take part in exhilarating field trips in a safe and supervised environment. The program presents the opportunity to experience outdoor recreational activities otherwise unavailable to them. Building self-esteem and encouraging healthy activities, youth who may be struggling with addictions issues, are living in "survival mode", or have escaped abusive homes are given the chance to learn about themselves and work as a group to make positive choices. The program introduces participants to feelings of healthy risk and excitement through outdoor pursuits.
Beginning in the autumn of 2010, RaY will begin work on a community art project through a partnership with the Winnipeg Arts Council. Local artist Leah Decter will facilitate a project that is developed together with the youth who frequent RaY.
RaY has recently begun offering a Hatha Yoga program once a week. As one of the world’s oldest systems of holistic health, the goal of Hatha Yoga is harmony between the mental/emotional, physical and spiritual self through exercise, breathing and meditation. As such, yoga encourages healing of street-involved youth through the release of physical tension and mental and emotional stress relief. The Hatha Yoga system strengthens the self-awareness and connection between the body, mind and spirit, resulting in increased self-esteem, self-worth, and a quicker addiction recovery process.
